چکیده

Hand-held OCT systems that offer physicians greater freedom to access imaging sites of interest could be useful for many clinical applications. In this study, by incorporating the theoretical speckle model into the decorrelation function, we have explicitly correlated the crosscorrelation coefficient to the lateral displacement between adjacent A-scans. We used this model to develop and study a freehand-scanning OCT system capable of real-time scanning speed correction and distortion-free imaging—for the first time to the best our knowledge. To validate our model and the system, we performed a series of calibration experiments. Experimental results show that our method can extract lateral scanning distance. In addition, using the manually scanned hand-held OCT system, we obtained OCT images from various samples by freehand manual scanning, including images obtained from human in vivo. ©2012 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.4500) Optical coherence tomography; (120.5800) Scanners; (030.6140) Speckle; (330.4150) Motion detection. Autofocusing and Astigmatism Correction in the Scanning Electron Microscope

This work investigates both the theoretical and practical aspects of autofocusing and astigmatism correction in the scanning electron microscope. A general framework is used to divide the problem into four primary areas of concern: noise reduction, regions of interest, sharpness measures, and maximum sharpness search algorithms. Each of these areas is investigated in detail and several novel co...

Optical Coherence Tomography in Dentistry

Optical Coherence Tomography is an imaging technique characterized by high spatial resolution and noninvasive subsurface detection1. OCT started as an interferometric technique utilizing the newly emerged low coherence or partial coherence light source and time-domain gating to achieve the depth resolution. With additional lateral scans, 2-D or 3D tomographic images can be obtained. The instrum...

Sensor-Based Technique for Manually Scanned Hand-Held Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging

Hand-held optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging probes offer flexibility to image sites that are otherwise challenging to access. While the majority of hand-held imaging probes utilize galvanometer- or MEMS-scanning mirrors to transversely scan the imaging beam, these probes are commonly limited to lateral fields-of-view (FOV) of only a few millimeters. The use of a freehand manually scann...

Optical coherence tomography for quantitative surface topography.

We address the measurement and correction of fan distortion in optical coherence tomography (OCT). This effect arises from the scanning system configuration and prevents one, in general, from obtaining quantitative topographic data from OCT. Computer simulations allowed us to quantify the effect and evaluate its dependence on the scanning mirror separation and design of the collimating lens, as...

A forward-viewing resonant fiber-optic endoscope of a scanning speed appropriate for a high-speed Fourier-domain optical coherence tomography (FD-OCT) system was developed to enable real-time, three-dimensional endoscopic OCT imaging. A new method was explored to conveniently tune the scanning frequency of a resonant fiber-optic scanner, by properly selecting the fiber-optic cantilever length, ...
